Robopocalypse
I stumbled upon this litte movie yesterday. Since the mascotte of this blog is a robot, I couldn’t just let this slide by. It has been foretold by movies such as terminator and with the entire 3.0 movement coming our way this is becoming more and more a possibilty. Robopocalypse.

Go racing teams! Go!

For a couple of years now, I’ve been trying to follow the trials and tribulations of student racingteams. At first glance you might think: why waste your time on students who just like to race cars or boats? Well let me explain!
The racing students do have a special love for the wonderful world of vehicles. As for me, I have a special love for technology. Put two and two together and you get a recruiter who learns about how students get to work together, achieve results and in the process discover new technology.
It’s not an assignment but a privilige that I get to follow these engineering students. So when I read about the Energy Team from the HoGent settting a new record, I got excited. But I got even more excited about the fact that it was a female student operating the car! Check out more about the project in this pdf download.
I’m happy to keep supporting the different kind of racingteams: Lessius Racing Team, VUB Eco Team, …
You too?
Z.

Some ICT student projects
Prior to the Day of the Engineer we ask all engineering students to send us an abstract of their year projects. Every year we select the most imaginative invention. Anything goes, really. There is only one condition. The students actually have to ‘build’ a physical something. But this leaves out most ICT engineers, since their inventions are made in a more virtual world.
Since we don’t want to forget anyone, we’re happy to present you some ICT projects that were submitted but that were not eligible for winning. We’re looking for ways to include these in next year’s contest.
Last March 21st we organized and hosted the 5th edition of our Day of the Engineer (’Dag van de Ingenieur’) which celebrates the importance of technology. That always reminds me of a holiday I once took to Bali where they have festivities nearly every day and for every occasion. For example, they have a special day for ‘the machines’ where they celebrate the value they have in everyday life. Can’t we have festivities every day as well? With flowers, dancing and singing and stuff?

Green electronics
Greenpeace is offering us a clear look at which company is producing ‘green electronics‘. The green agenda is slowly being pushed to the background but it should be our number one priority. What good is a sustainable economy without clean air for our lungs and healthy food? Let’s not lose track. Do what you can by buying as green as you can afford.
